Who said Alex Ovechkin still harbours resentment toward Eastern Conference rival Sidney Crosby?
The Pittsburgh Penguins released a commemorative e-booklet on Thursday night moments after Crosby scored the 1,000th point of his NHL career and Washington Capitals superstar Ovechkin was among several hockey greats to offer his congrats to Crosby:
[blockquote] “Sid’s great. We started at the same time. Obviously, I think if he was not injured he would have passed it a little bit earlier. But a thousand points, when you reach that milestone, it’s really good.”[cite] Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals [/cite][/blockquote]
The 29-year-old Crosby picked up an assist on Chris Kunitz‘s goal in the first period of Thursday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, becoming the 86th player in NHL history to reach the mark. Ovechkin and Vancouver Canucks stalwart Henrik Sedin both hit the 1,000-point barrier in January.
Oilers star Connor McDavid, who entered the day two points ahead of Crosby in the scoring race, also chimed in on the Penguins captain:
[blockquote]He’s the best player in the world, by far. Just what he does, it’s really unbelievable. This guy finds a way to produce every night. Score goals, create plays, even when he doesn’t get points he’s still creating so much offence. His defensive game is really good as well. So he’s an all-around player and he’s definitely the best player in the world.”[cite] Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers [/cite][/blockquote]
The eight-page booklet, which also features congratulatory quotes from teammate Evgeni Malkin, Wayne Gretzky and Jonathan Toews, among others, was published on electronic platform Issuu. Check it out here:
