There could be good news on the horizon for the Chicago Blackhawks.
While the official timetable has not been updated, star forward Patrick Kane could be back on the ice for the playoff-bound team earlier than his initial 12-week prognosis.
“There’s been some excellent progress,” Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville told the Chicago Sun Times on Monday. “It could be good news. We’ll see.”
Kane, who suffered a broken clavicle when he was cross-checked during the Blackhawks’ Feb. 24 game against the Florida Panthers, was in full equipment during Monday’s optional skate and has been skating plenty for the past two weeks.
According to Quenneville, the team is waiting on official medical clearance — “time is needed,” he said — and is still following due process to avoid rushing him back before he’s ready.
