Patrick Marleau will not be suspended for hit on Rust

Bryan Rust had to leave for the quiet room after taking a hit to the head from Patrick Marleau.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust had to leave Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final after being hit in the head by San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau.

The hit came with just over 15 minutes remaining in the game and Rust crossing the Sharks’ blue line with the puck at his feet and his head down.

Marleau stepped into Rust, sending the 24-year-old to the ice. Rust was able to get up under his own power and went to the locker room to be looked at.

He came back onto the ice for one more shift before being removed from the game for good.

Both he and Marleau had played big parts in Game 1, with each player scoring a goal.

Marleau received a two-minute minor for an illegal hit to the head.

According to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, he will face no further discipline for the hit.

After Game 1, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said Rust was day-to-day and called Marleau’s check a “blindside hit to the head.”
