Flyers’ Giroux out 2 weeks with lower-body injury

Training camp did not start well for the Philadelphia Flyers as captain Claude Giroux was injured early and expected to be out for a few weeks.

Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux is dealing with a lower-body injury that will keep him on the sidelines for approximately two weeks, the team’s general manager Ron Hextall told reporters Friday.

Early in Friday’s practice, Giroux left the ice to be evaluated by team medical staff.

According to Flyers beat writer Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia, several players said they thought Giroux might have tweaked his groin.

It’s not believed this injury was something Giroux had been dealing with heading into camp.

“This just happened today,” Hextall said. “It’s the first day of camp and guys go 100 miles per-hour and things happen. Obviously it’s not the way you want to start. That’s the hand we were dealt and we’re going to deal with it.”

Giroux registered 28 goals, 86 points in 82 games last season; the 26-year-old has only missed five regular season games since the start of the 2009-10 season.
