While the other superstar Canadian goaltenders were trying to win a gold medal, Pittsburgh Penguins starter Marc-Andre Fleury — he of an NHL-leading 31 victories — was busy in the lab, conceiving one of the most badass goalie masks we’ve ever seen.
If you’re going to represent for Steeltown in Soldier Field, home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears, you might as well look ready for some football.
Fleury’s longtime mask artist Stephane Bergeron painted up his special Stadium Series mask to resemble a Steelers helmet for the Penguins’ outdoor game versus the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. The pressure now shifts to Corey Crawford’s mask designer and his ability to artistically capture the “Super Bowl Shuffle” onto a CCM.
Reports that defenceman Olli Maatta will wear a Polamalu wig for the occasion remain unconfirmed.
