The Nashville Predators named Dan Muse their new assistant coach on Friday, making the 35-year-old the first person to jump directly to the NHL from the USHL ranks.
Muse spent the last two seasons as head coach of the USHL’s Chicago Steel, leading the club to its first Clark Cup championship in May. He’ll manage the Predators’ forwards and overseeing the penalty kill, according to the team.
Prior to his successful run in Chicago, Muse served as an assistant coach with Yale University and won a national title in 2013. The Bulldogs led the NCAA with a 90.1 per cent penalty killing success rate after Muse transitioned to an associate coach role.
His championship-winning team in Chicago led the USHL this past season at 90.3 per cent.
Along with Kevin McCarthy, who was named associate head coach, Muse will replace former Predators assistant coach Phil Housley, who took over the top job for the Buffalo Sabres in June.
