Questionable Stastny penalty costs Blues in loss

Watch as Paul Stastny of the St. Louis Blues thinks he has scored but is actually given a penalty for slashing the stick out of the hands of Winnipeg Jets defenceman Tyler Myers.

The St. Louis Blues have a legitimate gripe with the officials following a 1-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.

With five minutes to play in the second period, Blues forward Paul Stastny appeared to even up the score at 1-1, backhanding a pass from Steve Ott past Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec on a two-on-two rush.

However, the goal was immediately waved off by the officials as Stastny was instead assessed a two-minute penalty for slashing the stick out of the hands of Jets defenceman Tyler Myers while he was trying to separate in the offensive zone.

It sure looked like a ticky-tack call.

Even with the loss, St. Louis remains atop of the Central Division, but they only lead the Nashville Predators by one point.
