Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres will meet with the National Hockey League on Thursday in New York City to appeal his 25-game suspension, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos has learned.

Torres was suspended in April for landing a late hit to the head of Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The meeting between Torres, the NHL Players’ Association and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will be about the length of the suspension, not the suspension itself.
The 25-game punishment was the longest NHL suspension handed out since New York Islanders forward Chris Simon received 30 games in December 2007.
