Rask out against Sabres due to ‘general soreness’

Ryan Spooner scored in regulation and the shootout to lead the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night.

Hockey injury terms are known for being purposely — and at times, almost comically — vague.

But the Boston Bruins took this to a new level when they announced that starting goaltender Tuukka Rask was not on the ice for Tuesday’s game versus the Buffalo Sabres due to “general soreness.”

Instead, backup netminder Niklas Svedberg is in net for the Bruins.

It’s no secret the Bruins are viewing tonight’s matchup against the last-place Sabres as an easy two points, and a chance to rest up their starting goaltender before departing for a three-game road stretch that sees them face off against the Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, followed by tough home matchups versus the Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers.

The Bruins are currently sitting in the Eastern conference’s second wild card spot with 82 points, four points behind the Washington Capitals and five points ahead of the red-hot Senators.
