Red Wings recalls Xavier Ouellet from Griffins

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenceman Xavier Ouellet from Grand Rapids of the AHL and put defenceman Brendan Smith on seven-day injured reserve.

The team announced the moves Wednesday.

Ouellet played four games with the Red Wings last season and appeared briefly in Detroit’s first-round playoff series against Boston. He was drafted by the Red Wings in the second round in 2011.

Smith has two goals and four assists in 18 games this season for Detroit.
