Red Wings sign defenceman Robbie Russo to two-year contract

The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms with defenceman Robbie Russo on a two-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Russo appeared in each of Detroit’s final 19 games, averaging 16:04 of ice time and recording two penalty minutes, 18 shots on goal, 24 hits and 13 blocked shots.

The 24-year-old also played in 58 games with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins in 2016-17, picking up seven goals and 32 points. He earned a spot in the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic.

Russo and the Griffins won the 2017 Calder Cup.
