Reimer requests to be traded from Maple Leafs

Josh Gorges may be on the move out of Montreal and James Reimer is done with wearing the Blue and White. Nick Kypreos breaks down what to look forward to ahead of July 1st.

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer has requested to be traded, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

Reimer is to become a restricted free agent on July 1, the opening day of NHL free agency.

Last season, Reimer recorded a 3.29 goals-against average with a .911 save percentage in 36 games played with 32 starts.

The 26-year-old was the opening-night starter for the Leafs, but ended up becoming the primary backup to Jonathan Bernier as the season progressed.

The timing of Reimer’s request is a little curious as on Saturday the Maple Leafs also expressed interest in signing unrestricted free agent to be Martin Brodeur.
