Remembering Tragically Hip’s contributions to Hockey Night in Canada

In a special edition of the opening montage, Hockey Night in Canada salutes Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip.

Anyone who’s sat down for a Saturday night of hockey in this country has heard the music of the Tragically Hip playing over slow-motion goal and save highlights.

In fact, on feel alone one could make the reasonable assumption that every Hockey Night in Canada opening montage was set to Gord Downie’s voice. That’s because it was the perfect fit: Canada’s game and the voice of Canada’s band.

Downie passed away Tuesday night. He was 53.
