Replay of the Day: The only piece of Roberto Luongo’s equipment to get a piece of the perfectly placed shot is his water bottle.
Watch as Edmonton Oilers forward Jordan Eberle takes a backhand pass from linemate Taylor Hall and come streaking down the left side with time winding down in the second period, the Oilers trailing the Vancouver Canucks 2-0 on the road.
Pushed wide, Eberle roofs the puck over Luongo’s far shoulder from his backhand on a super-tight angle with just three seconds left in the frame.
Eberle’s 76 points last season were 23 more than that of his next most productive teammate (the oft-injured Hall had 56), and he became the first Oiler to score in 2013 with this beauty Sunday night.
Eberle’s marker kick-started an Edmonton comeback, which they would complete by tying the game in the third period and outduelling Vancouver in the shootout.
