In light of Calgary Flames general manager Jay Feaster’s steep asking price, the Boston Bruins are reportedly targeting other forwards besides right-winger Jarome Iginla.

According to csnne.com’s Joe Haggerty, a source with knowledge of Boston’s trade talks says that although the Bruins are one of a handful of teams in on the Iginla sweepstakes, the club is also currently engaged in discussion with several teams “about other available top-six forwards.”

It has been reported that Feaster is trying to land a pair of prospects as well as a first-round pick for his accomplished veteran. The 35-year-old Iginla is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season but has waived his no-movement clause in hopes of joining a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.

CSNNE.com reports that the Flames would love to acquire goalie Malcolm Subban, the Bruins’ 2012 first-round pick, to eventually supplant 36-year-old Miikka Kiprusoff. But other teams engaging in talks with Boston have been informed that both Subban and centre Ryan Spooner are off limits.

If the Bruins fail to acquire Iginla, the team might consider trying to lure veteran Jaromir Jagr, 41, from the Dallas Stars or Martin St. Louis, 37, from the Tampa Bay Lightning, Haggerty says.

Boston already lost out on trying to grab former Dallas Stars captain Brenden Morrow, who will make his debut for the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night.

Unlike Iginla, however, there have been no reports that St. Louis and UFA-to-be Jagr are definitely on the market.
