Pavel Datsyuk is “very close” to reaching a new agreement with the Detroit Red Wings, according to his agent Gary Greenstin.

“I can tell you we are kind of close, me and Ken (Holland) and Pavel are very close,” Greenstin told The Macomb Daily.

Datsyuk has one year remaining on a seven-year deal that pays him $6.7 million a season — meaning the contract can’t be officially signed, registered or announced until July 5.

In 47 games this season, Datsyuk tallied 15 goals and 49 points.

“I hope there will be something soon,” Greenstin added. “We’ll see. He would like to continue his career in Detroit. I don’t see a problem in negotiations.”
