New York Islanders goaltender Jaroslav Halak requires surgery this off-season, according to a report from Newsday’s Arthur Staple.

While Staple notes that it is unclear if Halak has already had the sports hernia surgery, the netminder will need a recovery time of six to eight weeks.

Halak suffered a groin injury on March 8, which kept him sidelined for the remainder of the regular season as well as the entirety of the Islanders’ playoff campaign. They were eliminated in Round 2 by the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games.

Prior to his injury, the Islanders’ No. 1 netminder had a record of 18-13-4 and registered a 2.30 GAA, a .919 save percentage and three shutouts to help his club to the post-season.
