The Phoenix Coyotes and head coach Dave Tippett have agreed in principle on a new multi-year contract, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 620.
The deal, however, is pending the sale of the team and not yet complete. The Coyotes have been operated by the National Hockey League since 2009 and a search for a new ownership group is ongoing.

Tippett became the Coyotes coach prior to the 2009-10 season after Wayne Gretzky resigned.
In three seasons, the Coyotes are 156-96-42 under Tippett with two playoff appearances; the team missed the playoffs this season, finishing in 10th place in the Western Conference.
Prior to joining Phoenix, the 51-year-old spent six seasons as the head coach of the Dallas Stars.
