Sens’ Phillips out vs Bruins, ‘coach’s decision’

Add defenceman Chris Phillips to the list of veteran NHLers who are healthy scratches this season.

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Phillips, who is in his 17th season with the Senators, will not play against the Boston Bruins Saturday afternoon but is still participating in warm-ups.

Earlier in the week, Ottawa fired coach Paul MacLean and promoted assistant Dave Cameron as head coach.

In the team’s first game under Cameron, they fell 5-3 against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.

The first-overall selection from the 1996 NHL Draft, has two assists and a plus/minus rating of minus-one in 23 games this season.

In the loss to Los Angeles, the 36-year-old played over 17 minutes, and was on the ice for a goal against.
