Report: Ticket prices rising for Leafs, Raptors

Ticket prices for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors will increase by about 2.5 per cent starting for the 2013-14 seasons, according to the Toronto Star.

Ticket prices for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors will increase by about 2.5 per cent starting for the 2013-14 seasons, according to the Toronto Star.

MLSE president and chief operating officer Tom Anselmi told the Star that the price hike reflects increased costs to the sports organization, calling it a “cost of living” increase.

“Our costs have gone up dramatically,” Anselmi added. “Players salaries, operating costs, league costs . . . in the case of the Raptors, our pricing has gone backwards in the last few years.”

The Raptors dropped lower bowl seat prices by five to 30 per cent, while upper bowl tickets decreased by 10 to 40 per cent in 2011.

Some season ticket holders received renewal invoices this week, roughly a month behind the usual renewal schedule, which reflected the increase.

“This is actually a little late for renewals to start,” he said. “We usually like to start our renewal process in February.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs have not made the post-season since 2004. Since then, the NHL suffered a full-season lockout in 2005 and were on the verge of another one this season before a resolution resulted in a 48-game schedule.

The Toronto Raptors are headed to a fifth straight season without a post-season berth.
