A pair of tempting trade-bait players are not being shopped by their respective clubs.
The New York Islanders are not offering up prolific-scoring winger Kyle Okposo, according to Newsday‘s Arthur Staple, and the Minnesota Wild is not making calls to deal defenceman Jonas Brodin, according to the Star Tribune‘s Michael Russo.
Okposo, 27, is an impending unrestricted free agent with little traction on a contract extension.
“I’m playing for the Islanders. Once that [trade deadline] passes, there’ll probably be a lot of questions answered, and whatever happens is going to happen. I hope I’m here, and I hope I’m trying to help this team win a Stanley Cup,” Okposo told reporters last week.
Brodin, 22, is signed through 2019-20 and carries a salary cap hit of $4.167 million. He was reportedly offered to the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier this season as an offer to land centre Ryan Johansen.
Minnesota activated Brodin off injured reserve Monday. He has missed the last 12 games after suffering a broken foot against the New York Rangers on Feb. 4. He has collected six points in 50 games with the Wild this season and ranks tied for third on the team with 72 blocked shots and fourth in average ice time at 20:22.
Both the Islanders and Wild would like to add a top-six forward for their push toward the playoffs. The Islanders reportedly expressed interest in Toronto’s P.A. Parenteau.
