Ron and Don: Blackhawks on a mission this season

Ron and Don are back to talk about the latest news in hockey, with Don finding himself impressed by the Blackhawks and Alex Ovechkin, but wondering why the Sabres left Jack Eichel on the bench during the shootout.

By now, all pundits have submitted their Stanley Cup predictions for the 2017-18 campaign. If you didn’t pick the Chicago Blackhawks to win it all, you might have made a mistake, says Don Cherry.

“They’re on a mission. Believe me,” Cherry said during Saturday’s Coach’s Corner segment on Hockey Night in Canada.

The Blackhawks were swept by the Nashville Predators in the first round of last season’s playoffs. It was the second straight year they exited the post-season in the opening round.

But Chicago looked like an inspired team in Thursday’s season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins, demolishing the defending champions 10-1.

“Pittsburgh, I don’t care what you say, when you win two (Cups) in a row, you’re not as hungry,” said Cherry. “Don’t count out Chicago because they’re on a mission. They were embarrassed last year by Nashville.

“Don’t count them out.”
