Oilers fans may be feeling good about their team’s chances heading into Game 7 against the Anaheim Ducks, largely because of the 7-1 drubbing Edmonton laid on the opposition in their previous game.
Don Cherry, however, is not so giddy about the Oilers’ chances.
The broadcaster took issue with what he says was Edmonton running up the score at home in Sunday’s Game 6 against the Ducks.
“They rubbed it on and had [Connor] McDavid on [the ice] in the last minute,” Cherry said during Tuesday’s Coach’s Corner segment. “You never rub it in because it always comes back to get you in the end.”

Cherry likened it to a situation the Oilers were involved in against the San Jose Sharks during the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. San Jose routed Edmonton, 7-0, in Game 4 and Cherry says Oilers head coach Todd McLellan was able to use that as motivation for his club.
It worked to great effect with Edmonton bouncing back to win the next game, 4-3 in overtime, en route to capturing the series in six games.
Now, Cherry claims, Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle can do the same with his troops.
“You do stuff like that, Carlyle is going to grab that just like McLellan did. Never rub it in.”
Game 7 at the Honda Center in Anaheim begins at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday night and can be seen on Sportsnet.
