Leino clears waivers for compliance buyout

After a zero-goal season, Ville Leino has been placed on waivers.

Ville Leino cleared waivers on Wednesday for the purpose of a compliance buyout by the Buffalo Sabres.

Leino, 30, spent parts of three seasons (137 games) with the Sabres, registering a total of 10 goals, 36 assists and a minus-18 rating.

The Finnish forward finished with zero goals and 15 assists in 58 games during the 2013-14 season.

The Sabres originally signed Leino to a six-year, $27-million deal as a free agent during the summer of 2011.
