Sabres send defenceman Erik Burgdoerfer back down to AHL

Rasmus Ristolainen scored just a minute into overtime as the Sabres beat the Oilers 4-3.

The Buffalo Sabres announced on Thursday that defenceman Erik Burgdoerfer was sent down to their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

The move comes just three days after the 27-year-old was called up for his first NHL game.

Burgdoerfer played in 480 minor league regular season and playoff games before finally cracking an NHL roster and he was predictably emotional about it.

In the two games he played with the Sabres, Burgdoerfer recorded no points, two shots and had a minus-one rating.

Burgdoerfer was the eleventh defenceman to dress for the Sabres this season as their blue line has been plagued with injuries.
