Sabres start fresh in net with Enroth, Neuvirth

BUFFALO, N.Y. — "Miller Time" is over in Buffalo, where the Sabres prepare to open their first season since 2005 without an established starter in net.

The focus turns to backup Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth, who was acquired in a trade with Washington. They’re competing for the job left open after Ryan Miller was dealt to St. Louis in February, and then signed with Vancouver in free agency this summer.

Though newly united in Buffalo, Enroth and Neuvirth have crossed paths numerous times.

The 26-year-olds grew up in Europe playing against each other. They were selected 12 picks apart in the second round of the 2006 NHL draft.

Last spring, the two formed a bond visiting the same doctors after sustaining season-ending injuries two games apart in Buffalo.
