Gomez and Redden will have to clear waivers before they can be bought out by their respective teams and become unrestricted free agents. On Tuesday, the league and Players’ Association made an amendment to the compliance buyout rules under the new CBA , allowing NHL teams to use one of their two buyouts prior to the start of the 2013 season opening on Saturday. The bought-out player’s salary cap hit will stay on the team’s books for this season, but there will be no cap hit taken on these buyouts for the 2013-14 season. When training camps opened earlier this week, the Canadiens told Gomez to stay home to avoid any risk of injury in order to clear him off their salary cap for next season. Gomez carries a cap hit of $7.36 million and Redden carries a cap hit of $6.5 million, according to capgeek.com.
