VANCOUVER — Henrik Sedin’s NHL ironman streak has come to an end at 679 games.
Canucks assistant coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Monday that the Vancouver captain will not play Tuesday in Edmonton against the Oilers. Sedin had the second-highest total for consecutive games among active players behind St. Louis Blues defenceman Jay Bouwmeester.
Sullivan said Sedin is listed as day to day, but did not disclose the centre’s injury.
Sedin, who has not been able to take face-offs lately, left after the second period of Saturday’s brawl-marred game against the Calgary Flames which the Canucks won 3-2 in a shootout.
Sedin last missed a game 10 seasons ago.
Bouwmeester took a streak of 682 consecutive appearances into the Blues’ game Monday night at Detroit.
