Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone has been suspended two games for an illegal hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings centre Landon Ferraro.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety delivered the verdict following a phone hearing Monday.

Stone received a minor penalty for the hit, which took place at 11:08 of the second period of a 5-3 Red Wings win Saturday. Ferraro was shaken up on the play but did return to the game later that period.

The Senators play the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday and the Winnipeg Jets Thursday. Stone will miss both of those games.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Stone will forfeit $37,634.40 in salary.
