OTTAWA – Luke Richardson will return as head coach of the Ottawa Senators’ American Hockey League affiliate next season.
The team announced Tuesday that Richardson has signed a one-year deal to continue as coach of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators.
The former NHL defenceman has posted a 122-82-24 record with Binghamton over three seasons, leading the Senators to the playoffs twice over that span.
He was named head coach of the AHL Eastern Conference all-star team in 2012-13 after helping the Senators post the conference’s best record at the all-star break.
"We’re very excited to have Luke back behind the bench next season," Binghamton general manager Randy Lee said in a statement. "As we witnessed with last week’s development camp, the growth and development of the young players in our organization is one of our highest priorities. Luke has shown a tremendous ability to push our players to be better and, more importantly, to be fully prepared when they get the call to the National Hockey League."
Prior to joining Binghamton, Richardson spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the NHL Senators.
