Sens’ Michalek looking elsewhere for new deal

Milan Michalek will become a UFA on July 1.

Milan Michalek doesn’t appear likely to return to the Ottawa Senators.

According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnson, Michalek has yet to reach an extension with the Senators and the veteran forward is beginning to look elsewhere for his next contract.

Michalek, 29, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

After a slow start in 2013-14, the Czech Republic native scored 17 goals, 22 assists with a minus-25 rating in 82 games.

The Senators originally acquired Michalek along with forward Jonathan Cheechoo and a draft pick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Dany Heatley in September of 2009.

In 631 career games with Ottawa and San Jose, Michalek has recorded 187 goals and 207 assists.
