Seth Jones to IR, expected to miss three weeks

Columbus Blue Jackets' Seth Jones (3) is seen during a break in action during the second period of an NHL hockey game against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, N.C. In the days and weeks leading up to the 2013 NHL draft, there was no consensus on what order the top four picks would go in. The Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers were questioned for taking Nathan MacKinnon and Aleksander Barkov over Seth Jones, and the Tampa Bay Lightning were applauded for selecting Jonathan Drouin third. The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenceman Seth Jones on injured reserved the team announced today.

Jones suffered a hairline fracture in his foot during Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues and will be sidelined for at least three weeks.

The 22-year-old has three goals and three assists through 10 games this season and currently leads the team in average ice time per game.

Jones was acquired via trade last January in exchange for all-star centre Ryan Johansen. Since joining the team, Jones has 26 points in 51 games.

The Blue Jackets (5-3-2) currently sit in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division, and are one point out of the second wildcard spot.

Columbus’ next game is Wednesday against the visiting Anaheim Ducks.
