The Los Angeles Kings and Mike Richards have reached a settlement on his standard player contract, the National Hockey League Players’ Association announced in a statement.

The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) have reached a settlement agreement regarding Mike Richards’ standard player contract. The settlement amicably resolves the grievance filed by the NHLPA on August 10, 2015 in response to the Los Angeles Kings’ termination of Richards’ contract. Richards is an Unrestricted Free Agent.
The Kings confirmed the settlement via email:
The Los Angeles Kings have reached an agreement with Mike Richards to resolve the grievance filed in relation to the termination of his NHL Standard Players Contract. The terms are agreeable to all parties. We will not be commenting further on the terms.

Richards was charged with possession of a controlled substance stemming from an incident at the Canadian border at the Emerson port of entry in June. The case was adjourned until December 8, 2015 in September.
Manitoba RCMP Cst. Paul Human issued the following statement to Sportsnet in August:
On June 17, 2015 at about 2:00 pm, the Emerson RCMP detachment was notified that a controlled substance had been intercepted by Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Emerson Port of Entry.
The matter was turned over to the RCMP and a subsequent investigation on June 17th led to the arrest and release of a 30-year-old male.
Mike Richards, 30, from Kenora, Ontario was formally charged by the RCMP on August 25, 2015 for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Richards will be appearing in Emerson Provincial Court on September 10th, 2015.
There are no further details available at this time.
Richards is currently a free agent.
