The Canucks will be alright, the Bruins suffer a blow, Teemu to the rescue and more. Here are six things we learned in the NHL on Monday.
Bruins’ playoff push loses steam
It seems like a strange thing to say considering the Boston Bruins just steamrolled the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. But regardless of what the team is calling a “statement win,” the squad is no doubt feeling a little less confident after discovering the extent of forward David Krejci’s knee injury. Krejci, 28, suffered a partially torn MCL during Friday’s loss to the St. Louis Blues and the Bruins announced Monday that the injury is serious enough to take him off the ice for four to six weeks. That’s a big loss for a team that’s on the bubble.
Canucks will survive without Miller
Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller could be looking at the same timeline for a leg injury of his own.
Miller was injured in an awkward collision with teammate Jannik Hansen during Sunday’s game against the New York Islanders and underwent an MRI Monday.
But fret not, Canucks fans. You’re going to be just fine.
“I don’t think we’ve seen this before where we could run this deep on injuries and still have the same kind of push,” Hansen told the Vancouver Sun. Read more on the team’s unconventional playoff push from Sportsnet’s Mark Spector.
Eddie Lack and backup goaltender Jacob Markstrom, who was recalled from the AHL, will be put to the test against the Boston Bruins Tuesday.
Leafs looking to deal Lupul
It’s no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to make some changes. But just what those changes might be has been under some pretty heavy speculation.
Sportsnet 590 The Fan host Andrew Walker reported that Joffrey Lupul is being shopped in advance of the trade deadline.
One club that could be interested? The Montreal Canadiens. Read the full story from Sportsnet’s Luke Fox.
Proud parents of a baby Penguin
These new parents love the Pittsburgh Penguins so much they named their son after the team’s biggest stars. (No, seriously.)

So you’re saying there’s a chance
Actually, that’s the exact opposite of what Carolina Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis is saying.
When asked about the trade rumours surrounding Jordan Staal being dealt back to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Francis could not have been more clear:

Teemu to the rescue
Even when he isn’t lacing up his skates, Teemu Selanne has the power to impact the Anaheim Ducks’ scoreboard. Just seconds after Selanne was shown on the jumbotron in the third period, the Ducks went on a scoring spree to take a 3-2 lead over the visiting Detroit Red Wings.
(The game ended up being settled in a shootout, with Corey Perry and Jakob Silfverberg scoring for the Ducks to complete the comeback.)
