Late in the first period, Backes was hit by Stars defenceman Trevor Daley and fell to the ice. Backes was slow to get up, but left on his own accord after appearing to hit his head on the ice. Daley was not penalized on the play. Backes did not return to the game and the extent of his injury was not immediately known.

In eight games prior to Tuesday’s contest, the 30-year-old had two goals, three assists and six penalty minutes.
