Blues’ Pietrangleo out weeks after knee-on-knee hit

St. Louis Blues Brian Elliott was solid between the pipes with 38 saves in the 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.

The St. Louis Blues have suffered a serious blow to their blueline.

No. 1 defenceman Alex Pietrangelo was placed on injured reserve Monday after sustaining a right knee injury in the Blues’ 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.

Pietrangelo underwent an MRI on the weekend and will be reevaluated in three weeks.

The 26-year-old workhorse was injured following a third-period, knee-on-knee collision with Minnesota’s Charlie Coyle. Coyle’s hit immediately sparked a scrum.

Pietrangelo was attended to on the ice but hobbled off to the dressing room on his own power.

Through 55 games this season, Pietrangelo has put up 23 points (three goals, 20 assists), 14 penalty minutes, and ranks fourth overall in ice time, averaging 26:40 per game.

“We’ve done a helluva job in dealing with injuries to significant players, and this is another one,” coach Ken Hitchcock told reporters. “We’ll adjust and keep going. Not much you can do about it. Big thing for us is just mentally move forward as quick as you can.”
