Blues expected to receive trade calls on Shattenkirk

Damien Cox and Elliotte Friedman discuss all the new and rumors from around the NHL, including who the Tampa Lightning would want in return for Jonathan Drouin.

Kevin Shattenkirk is one of the best puck-moving defencemen in the NHL and he’s slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2016-17 campaign. He’s the type of player that’s considered a hot commodity to NHL general managers.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on the Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada Saturday that he believes the St. Louis Blues are going to start receiving calls regarding the availability of the 26-year-old.

Shattenkirk’s name had recently surfaced in trade rumours as it was believed if the Blues had acquired Ryan Johansen from the Columbus Blue Jackets it would have been Shattenkirk going back the other way. Blue Jackets of course ended up sending Johansen to the Nashville Predators for Seth Jones.

Shattenkirk has a salary cap hit of $4.25 million and in 34 games this season he has 25 points.
