St. Louis Blues sign backup goalie Carter Hutton

Kyle Okposo is switching from orange to navy as he becomes a Buffalo Sabre on July 1st, signed to a seven year deal that has the Hockey Central panel wondering why the Islanders chose not to keep him.

The St. Louis Blues secured a backup goalie for Jake Allen.

The club signed free agent goaltender Carter Hutton, formerly of Nashville, to a two-year contract worth $2.25 million on Friday.

In limited work behind Pekka Rinne last season, the 30-year-old native of Thunder Bay, Ont., recorded a 7-5-4 record in 17 games, posting a 2.33 goals-against average, a .918 save-percentage and two shutouts.

During the 2013-14 season, Hutton posted a career-high 20 wins in Nashville.

Overall, Hutton has appeared in 76 NHL games, posting a 33-24-12 record with a 2.56 goals-against average, .910 save-percentage and 12 shutouts.

Earlier Friday, the Blues signed Allen to a four-year contract extension, locking him up through the 2020-21 season.

This now solidifies the Blues crease since they traded Brian Elliott to the Calgary Flames at the draft.
