The St. Louis Blues have agreed to a five-year contract extension with Jay Bouwmeester that will lock up the defenceman until the 2018-19 season, the team announced Thursday.
Bouwmeester has one year left on his current deal, but the five-year extension is worth a reported $27 million, which would be an annual salary cap hit of $5.4 million.
The Edmonton native was acquired by the Blues in a trade with the Calgary Flames in April before the trade deadline.
Bouwmeester, 29, registered seven points in 14 regular season games with the Blues and had 22 points in 47 games all of last season with the Blues and Flames.
