Martin St. Louis’s teammates will be by his side Sunday in Montreal for his mother’s funeral.
France St. Louis died at age 63 after suffering a heart attack on May 8. The New York Rangers forward flew to Montreal upon hearing the news and still took to the ice to play in Game 5 against the Penguins in Pittsburgh the following day. With his father and sister in attendance, St. Louis scored an emotional opening goal during Game 6 on Mother’s Day at Madison Square Garden, leading the Rangers to a 3-1 win against the Penguins.
After defeating the Pittsburg Penguins 2-1 in Game 7, the Rangers advanced to the third round of playoffs. They are set take the Bell Centre ice for Game 1 on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST against the Montreal Canadians, the same day for which the funeral was original scheduled.
The St. Louis family rescheduled the funeral around the game after the NHL refused to bump the time of the game to the evening. The entire team, including Rangers coach Alain Vigneault, will attend the funeral between games 1 and 2.
