Stars’ Nill likely to be named Team Canada’s GM

Elliotte Friedman and Damien Cox discuss the latest news around the hockey world, including Rob Ford’s nomination to the Hockey Hall of Fame board of directors and much more.

Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars will likely be named general manager of Team Canada at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in the Czech Republic this summer, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

While the Stars are technically still in the hunt for the playoffs, they sit eight points back of the final wild card spot heading into Saturday’s game against the Nashville Predators.

This is Nill’s second season with the Stars. Prior to arriving in Dallas in 2013, he was the long-serving assistant GM of the Detroit Red Wings.

The Hanna, Alta., native was the GM of Team Canada when they won gold at the tournament in 2004.

As a player, Nill was a member of Canada’s national and Olympic teams in 1979-80.
