The Dallas Stars have inked defenceman Jordie Benn to a three-year extension, the club announced Friday.
According to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, the deal is worth a total of $3.3 million and carries a cap hit of $1.1 million.
“Jordie has earned the trust of his teammates and the coaching staff, and he’s taken advantage of every opportunity put in front of him during his career,” general manager Jim Nill said in a press release. “His ability to play in a variety of roles make him valuable to our defensive depth and flexibility, and we’re happy to have him locked up for the next three seasons.”
Benn, 28, was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound blue liner — and older brother of Stars captain Jamie Benn — tallied three goals and nine assists in 64 regular season games in 2015-16, and was ranked third on the squad for blocked shots, with 94.
He has played his entire career in Dallas, earning 56 points in 244 career regular season games over the course of five seasons since signing with the club as an undrafted free agent in 2011.
