Struggling Oilers visit Red Wings as betting underdogs

Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall gives his thoughts on the Oilers and their record this season.

The Edmonton Oilers will be gunning for just their third win in their last 10 games when they take the ice on Friday against the Detroit Red Wings as +155 betting underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

It is quickly becoming yet another lost season for the Oilers, who have tallied just 15 points over their first 22 games, good for last place in the NHL overall standings.

Edmonton has been unable to put it together in the early going, giving up late goals in four of their last five losses, despite regularly outshooting opponents.

Edmonton also enters Friday night’s matchup at Joe Louis Arena in a goal-scoring drought, tallying just one total goal over the first two games of a five-game Eastern road swing in losses to Washington and Carolina.

Detroit has won two of their last three but have failed to record back-to-back wins on home ice this season, cobbling together a mediocre 5-5-2 record at home.

With 25 points, the Red Wings are squarely in the playoff mix in the Eastern Conference, deadlocked with Boston for third in the Atlantic Division. However, they have been unable to maintain their season-opening odds to win the Stanley Cup, which have slipped from 25/1 to 33/1.

Following Friday night’s contest, the Oilers travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins, before wrapping up their road trip with a stop in Toronto on Monday. The Red Wings, meanwhile, wrap up the weekend with a visit from the Florida Panthers on Sunday.

The Panthers will try to end their current three-game losing slide when they entertain the New York Islanders on Friday as slim +105 underdogs.

Florida has now lost three or more in a row on three occasions this season. However, despite their struggles they have held steady on the Stanley Cup betting odds at 66/1.

The Dallas Stars continue to lead the way on the Stanley Cup futures, perched as 7/1 favourites on the strength of their current 8-2 run that has lifted them to the top of the Western Conference standings.

Winners of four of their last five, the Montreal Canadiens closely follow the Stars with 15/2 Stanley Cup odds, followed by the New York Rangers at 8/1, and the Capitals at 9/1, with the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, and Anaheim Ducks at 12/1.

The Ottawa Senators have recorded just one regulation loss in their last 10 games, but continue to trail the favourites at 33/1, ahead of the Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks, both at 50/1, the Calgary Flames at 66/1, while the Oilers sit alongside the Maple Leafs at a distant 150/1.
