Report: Melnyk wants Sundin on Sens

The Ottawa Senators want Mats Sundin on their team and told him so face-to-face last week, according to Thursday’s Ottawa Sun.

According to the report, Senators owner Eugene Melnyk delivered the message during a chance encounter with the former Maple Leafs captain during the Senators’ visit to Sweden to open the NHL season against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sundin dropped the puck for the ceremonial faceoff Saturday.

Melnyk reportedly told Sundin that the club will make room for him if he wants to play there.

Melnyk did not comment in the Sun report and Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry, didn’t want to comment on the meeting with Melnyk.
