Ryan Dixon and Rory Boylen co-host Tape to Tape, Sportsnet’s weekly NHL podcast and a one-stop shop for news, analysis, opinion, wild trade speculation and interviews covering news and entertainment around the league.
Want on-point analysis? We got it. Want trade scenarios of all kinds? We got it. Want insightful interviews with insiders, entertainers and players? We got that too. With these two putting their spin and giving their takes on the news each week, there’s no where else NHL fans need to go.
On this week’s episode, Ryan and Rory wonder if the Red Wings stand any chance of recovering this season. Is it time to move on from the Red Wings core and start making moves and using players in a way that helps transition to a newer, younger group of players. Is this even possible with so much money and term tied up with the current ageing group? And then there’s the Ken Holland question: has the GM adapted well enough to still be the man for this job?
Lou Korac calls in to talk about the St. Louis Blues, who fired coach Ken Hitchcock on Wednesday and replaced him with head-coach-in-waiting Mike Yeo. GM Doug Armstrong held an emotional press conference and called out his players as “independent contractors” so does that change their trade deadline outlook at all? Was having Yeo on the bench alongside Hitchcock a mistake? Could the team actually still re-sign Kevin Shattenkirk instead of trading him?
And finally, it’s time for Ryan’s favourite segment: fake trades! Listen as the guys try to trade Nazem Kadri from the Leafs, get Marc-Andre Fleury to the Blues, force Matt Duchene out of Colorado (and possibly to Carolina?) and maybe even get Jarome Iginla to Edmonton or Thomas Vanek back to the Islanders.
