Tarasenko critical of Blues fans after Jake Allen gets Bronx cheer

Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 34 shots he faced as the Winnipeg Jets beat the St. Louis Blues 4-0.

The St. Louis Blues are struggling to maintain a playoff spot having lost five in a row and frustrations are beginning to boil over. The Blues were blanked 4-0 by the Winnipeg Jets Friday night and goaltender Jake Allen was given the Bronx cheer by the home crowd at Scottrade Center.

Following the game, star winger Vladimir Tarasenko was critical of how the fans reacted.

“I’m tired of talking about same stuff every night,” Tarasenko said via Blues beat reporter Lou Korac. “Everyone knows what spot we are in. One thing I can address to everyone of you [media members and] the fans too, the goalies are the last guys who we can blame on this. This is just embarrassing to hear.”

Allen allowed four goals on just 23 shots and didn’t like his performance or his team’s.

“Just too many mistakes throughout 60 minutes, including myself,” Allen said. “You see the turnovers against a top team like that with tons of speed and they shoved it back down our throats pretty quick. … I guess we’re not mentally in the right place right now.”

Allen is just 2-12-0 with a .896 save percentage in his past 16 appearances.

“If not for the goalies, we’d be in a worse spot right now,” Tarasenko added. “They can blame us, they can blame everyone, but don’t touch the goalies.”

Blues head coach Mike Yeo supported Tarasenko’s sentiment.

The Blues visit the Nashville Predators Sunday in the team’s final game before Monday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline.
