The Edmonton Oilers made history on Wednesday by naming Connor McDavid the youngest captain ever in the NHL.
The Oilers held a ceremony and press conference to introduce McDavid as the new official face of the franchise, and showcased alternates Milan Lucic, Jordan Eberle, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with new freshly stitched letters on the front of their uniforms.
There’s specifically nothing wrong with showing off the stars tasked with leading the team into a new era, it’s just that the photo opportunity with the four players ended up looking something like a doting parent would force their children to endure before setting off on the first day of school, or maybe the cover of a brooding but alluring boy band album.
Twitter – if you can believe this – took this awkward photo op and ran with it, and before the afternoon was up the hashtag #OilersBoyBandNames was everywhere in hockey Twitter timelines.
Because sometimes clicking through a hashtag can be tedious work, we combed through the best of the best for you.

Another innocent moment dragged ruthlessly through the hockey Twitter machine and left in the shambles of pure mockery.
For other teams and players observing this and hoping to avoid a similar fate, the trick to not getting made fun of on Twitter is fairly simple: Just don’t try to do anything ever and you should be fine.
