On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers made official what we’ve all been expecting for a while: Connor McDavid has signed an eight-year extension with the team that drafted No. 97 first overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.
And while the length of the new deal was no surprise, it was the exact value of the contract that kept the hockey world guessing up until GM Peter Chiarelli announced the $12.5 million annual average value at the press conference.
It was that $100 million figure that Twitter reacted to in the wake of the announcement.
