Twitter Reaction: Maple Leafs return to playoffs with dramatic win

Matt Hunwick set up Kasperi Kapanen beautifully for his first NHL goal that keeps the Leafs’ playoff chances hopeful.

They did it. They actually did it.

The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in a nail-biting 5-3 game Saturday night to clinch their first playoff berth since 2013.

Despite losing Frederik Andersen to a head injury in the first period and even trailing 1-0 and 3-2, the Maple Leafs scored three unanswered goals at the end of the game to get the win they needed to clinch. Curtis McElhinney’s huge save on Sidney Crosby and Kasperi Kapanen’s game-winning goal put Toronto over the top, while Auston Matthews’ empty-net goal was his 40th of the season.

With one game left on the schedule Sunday against Columbus, if the Leafs get a point they will play the Ottawa Senators in Round 1. If they don’t, they’ll meet the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Washington Capitals.

Leafs Nation was ecstatic after the win. Here are some of the best reactions:
