Twitter Reaction: Phaneuf traded to Kings, Gaborik to Senators

David Amber and Colby Armstrong break down the trade that sends Dion Phaneuf to the Los Angeles Kings and sees Marian Gaborik come to Ottawa in return.

Nearly two years to the day he was traded from Toronto to Ottawa, Dion Phaneuf has again been shipped to a new NHL home.

On Tuesday night, Phaneuf was pulled mid-game in Pittsburgh and later traded to the Los Angeles Kings along with Nate Thompson, for Marian Gaborik and Nick Shore. The Sens retained 25 per cent of Phaneuf’s contract.

Though this would once have been a landscape-altering blockbuster, the 32-year-old Phaneuf and 35-year-old Gaborik form what is mostly a trade built mainly for its financial benefits from the Sens’ perspective. For the Kings, they’ll acquire a physical defenceman, who at least figures to be more of a factor in their lineup than was Gaborik in declining minutes.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the swap:
